No school in the Bizana area can ask for more dedicated teachers than those at Chief Dumile Senior Secondary School in KwaNdela location.
But like many schools in the area, with 985 pupils being taught by 13 teachers, there is little chance of success.
A litany of problems, similar to many in the district includes a high rate of teenage pregnancies, overcrowded classrooms, ill discipline and a lack of basic resources – the principal has even accused the pupils of drug trafficking. Read the rest of this entry »

The dreams of the Khobonga family in Bizana rest on the shoulders of 23-year-old Luyanda.
The oldest of six children, his mother Nomalungisa Khobonga hopes he will be the family’s ticket out of poverty.

Poor results failed to deter matrics at an under-performing Bizana school from spending their revision time by preparing for an end-of-year bash.
While other Grade 12’s were revising for their exams last year, pupils from Chief Dumile Senior Secondary School in KwaNdela village took two days off on October 8 and 9 to stage a matric dance in KwaZulu-Natal’s Port Shepstone, 40 kilometres from Bizana. Read the rest of this entry »
